We’ve all been there. You’re in a rush to leave when you suddenly realize you can’t locate your keys. You try to retrace your steps and remember when you last saw them. Even when you find them eventually, wouldn’t it be nice to avoid the stress of lost keys in the future?

4 Tips To Avoid Lost Keys

If you frequently lose your car keys, we have a few tips you can consider:

  1. Keep them on you when you’re out. When you’re away from home, keeping your keys on your body can help you avoid losing them. That doesn’t mean keeping them in your pocket—they can fall out if your pocket doesn’t have a zipper. Try clipping your car keys to a lanyard or sturdy carabiner.
  1. Give them a designated space. When you’re home, your keys should go in a designated landing zone. Build a habit of putting them there immediately when you walk in. You can get a bowl or basket that stays in your entryway, or you can install a hook to hang your keys on.
  1. Make them vibrant and easy to see. Keys are small and can easily blend in with their environment. One way to avoid lost keys is to make them as obvious as you can. Get a brightly colored keychain or bracelet that will help your keys to stand out.
  1. Track them with Bluetooth. Lost keys are inevitable for some people, but the least you can do is have a backup plan for the next time it happens. Attach them to an electronic tracking device of some kind, such as an AirTag or a Tile Mate. If you lose your keys but you still have your phone, you can quickly locate them.
